Terms of Use

Welcome to CourseBolt ("Platform," "we," "us," or "our"). These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the CourseBolt course authoring platform, including all related services, features, and tools. By creating an account or using the Platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Eligibility and Accounts
The Platform is designed for use by educators, instructional designers, curriculum developers, and educational institutions. You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account.
2. Permitted Use
You may use the Platform to author courses, design lessons, create and manage learning objectives, generate assessment questions, organize curriculum materials, and export content for use in learning management systems. All use must be for lawful educational purposes.
3. Intellectual Property
Your Content
You retain full ownership of all course content, learning objectives, lesson materials, and other original works you create or upload to the Platform ("User Content"). We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your User Content.
Platform Tools and AI Outputs
The Platform provides AI-powered tools for generating assessment questions, suggesting question types, extracting text from materials, and other assistive features. While the structured output of these tools (e.g., generated questions, suggested configurations) is provided for your use within your courses, the underlying algorithms, models, prompts, and Platform software remain our intellectual property.
4. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer
The Platform uses artificial intelligence to assist with content creation, including but not limited to assessment question generation, question type recommendations, and text extraction. AI-generated content is provided as a starting point and professional suggestion only. You are solely responsible for reviewing, editing, and approving all AI-generated content before use with students. We do not guarantee the accuracy, appropriateness, or pedagogical soundness of any AI-generated output.
5. Acceptable Use Policy
You agree not to:
- Share your account credentials with unauthorized individuals
- Use the Platform to generate content that is discriminatory, harmful, or inappropriate for educational settings
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, exploit, or misuse the AI-powered features of the Platform
- Use automated scripts or bots to access the Platform beyond its intended interface
- Upload materials that infringe on third-party intellectual property rights
- Use the Platform for any purpose other than legitimate educational content development
6. Data Handling
Your use of the Platform is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your information. By using the Platform, you consent to the data practices described therein.
7. FERPA Compliance
CourseBolt is a course authoring and design tool intended for use by educators and instructional designers. The Platform does not directly collect, store, or process student education records as defined under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Where an institution uses the Platform in connection with student data through integrated systems (e.g., Canvas LMS), we will act as a "school official" with a legitimate educational interest under the institution's direct control, and will handle any such data in accordance with applicable FERPA requirements.
8. Third-Party Integrations
The Platform integrates with third-party services including Google (for authentication and AI services), Canvas LMS (for content delivery), and cloud infrastructure providers. Your use of these integrations is subject to the respective third-party terms of service. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of third-party services.
9. Service Availability
We strive to maintain reliable access to the Platform but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may perform maintenance, updates, or modifications that temporarily affect service access. We will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice of planned downtime.
10. Termination
You may close your account at any time by contacting us. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. Upon termination, you may request export of your User Content for a reasonable period, after which your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CourseBolt and its affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Platform, including but not limited to damages related to AI-generated content, loss of data, or service interruptions. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Platform in the twelve months preceding the claim.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on the Platform and updating the effective date. Your continued use of the Platform after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict of law principles.
